End Tidal-Monitoring

End-tidal monitoring provides valuable information about CO2 production and ventilation. ETCO2 monitoring is utilized in the prehospital setting as an indicator for measurement in many clinical situations. Capnometry or capnography is a noninvasive technique that provides a breath-by-breath analysis and can aid in many different critical situations. By using capnography, a patient’s ventilation status is monitored in real time. The ability to detect issues at an early stage prompts timely intervention at the onset of an adverse respiratory event, which can help avoid deterioration to a more critical, or fatal, point. End-tidal monitoring devices help to prevent or reduce adverse events, such as otherwise undetected respiratory depression and hypoxia in patients.

Target Audience

This course is intended for those licensed at the EMR level through Paramedic. This course satisfies the requirements for the State of Wisconsin EMT Flexible Refresher Renewal.
