Essential Skills in Trauma-Informed Care

This workshop will provide participants with foundational knowledge about trauma and the ability to apply that knowledge to their specific settings in order to increase effectiveness with traumatized populations. Topics will include trauma screening and assessment, intervention considerations, and systemic challenges and opportunities.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurses and other Allied Health Professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

Improve the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in psychiatry and addition medicine for psychotherapist, psychologists and physicians treating patients and their families by: 

  1. Understand the impact of trauma exposure on mental health and behavior
  2. Identify factors that impact trauma response and resilience
  3. Describe appropriate tools and methods for trauma assessment
  4. Develop strategies to increase individual and organizational trauma-informed care
