Hypothermia and Cold Water Emergencies
Hypothermia can be defined as having a core body temperature of less than 95 degrees Farenheit. There are several methods which have been utilized to categorize the severity of hypothermia by core temperature and associated signs and symptoms and the likely outcome. Generally a hypothermic patient can be placed in one of three categories to include mild, moderate or severe. Training individuals in rural communities plays an important role in ensuring public safety. The utilization of modern technology allows learners to become increasingly familiar with the equipment that is available for these patients as well the correct utilization of the equipment in order to provide the most up to date care for patients placed in these particular situations.
Target Audience
This course is intended for those licensed at the EMR level through Paramedic. This course satisfies the requirements for the State of Wisconsin EMT Flexible Refresher Renewal.
