Mental Health For First Responders - 4th Quarter Continuing Education 2020
Mental health in first responders is many times overlooked. Due to increased rates of suicide has prompted research into what is first responders need to maintain an emotional stability and stay mentally healthy. Putting the needs of first responder's mental health is of the utmost importance. Protecting those who protect our communities is vital to the future of our ever-changing and ever-evolving profession.
Target Audience
This course is intended for those licensed at the EMR level through Paramedic. This course satisfies the requirements for the State of Wisconsin EMT Flexible Refresher Renewal.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, learners should be able to:
- Mental health is not something that only affects certain people
- Recognize signs and symptoms of mental health illness/PTSD
- Understand the different types of stressors that one can be affected by
- Understand how the brain works under stress
- Understand how important it is to get help and not be afraid to ask for it
- Maintain social support as well as family support
