New AAH Systemwide Code Status Policy: Information for Team Members Caring for Inpatients 11/17/21

This course will implement and utilize the new system wide Code Status Policy that will be rolled out as of January 1, 2022 throughout Advocate Aurora Health.

Target Audience

This course is intended for all members of the health care industry and Advance Practice Clinicians, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Chaplains and other Team Members who interact with patients about goals of care and code status considerations.

Learning Objectives

Objectives:

  • Promote shared decision-making among the healthcare team, patients and their trusted others regarding code status decisions
  • Document code status discussions and decisions appropriately in the EHR
  • Effectively communicate patient code status amongst team members under all clinical circumstances and at all clinical sites
  • Properly manage code status when patient is to have a procedure involving increased risk of cardiac arrest/clinical deterioration
  • Access appropriate consultative resources when there is disagreement amongst healthcare
