This course will discuss the opioid crisis and understanding the differences between tolerance, addiction, and dependencies.  Also, will touch on weaning principles.

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Understand the statistics of the opioid crisis
  2. Understand the safe use of opioids in hospice and palliative care
  3. Identify opioid toxicity and proper use of naloxone
  4. Understand the prevalence of persistent opioid use in cancer patients
  5. Describe what Advocate Aurora Health is doing to combat the opioid crisis
  6. Understand the differences between tolerance, addiction, and dependency
  7. Explore weaning principles
