This course will provide participants with the latest information and evidence needed to create a shared mental model in EFM (Electronic Fetal Medicine), the key to improving outcomes and migrating risk. Uterine Activity, documentation pearls, and deposition survival strategies will be included along with a fetal heart rate tracing practicum where clinicians will be able to apply a standardized approach to EFM interpretation and management.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Obstetrics and Gynecologic physicians and nurses, Certified Nurse Midwives, Family Practice physicians who do OB; Labor and Delivery and Postpartum nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify knowledge gaps in fetal monitoring & labor management. 
  2. Apply an evidence-based approach of standardized interpretation and management to intrapartum electronic fetal monitoring. 
  3. Discuss the relationship between uterine activity and fetal oxygenation. 
  4. Utilize the NICHD terminology and 2 principles of interpretation in an FHR tracings review. 
  5. Describe the relationship between documentation & deposition and discuss the legal implications of both.
