STAAR-POSH Learning Collaborative-Optimizing the Surgical Patient: Implementing of Malnutrition Screen, Immunonaturition, and STAAR Protocols Recorded Session

STAAR-POSH (Surgical Team Approach to Advanced  Recovery and Peri-Operative Surgical Home) Learning Collaborative is to help advance recovery protocols that can be applied to patient care and treatment plans as appropriate.

This Optimizing the Surgical Patient: Implementing of Malnutrition Screen, Immunonaturition, and STAAR Protocols course will review the protocols and assist with the management of surgical patients.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Primary care, IM, FM, surgeons, all specialties referring to surgery, anesthesiology. Nurses: pre-surg testing, pre-op, surgical, post-op., phy. therapy, occupational therapy, dietitians & other interested professionals

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should :

  1. Define the role of nutrition in the surgical patient
  2. Learn to perform pre-op malnutrition screening tool
  3. Implement nutrition intervention for all surgical patients including those who fail the malnutrition screening tool
  4. Clarify the purpose of specialized surgical nutrition supplements and how to implement at your site
