STAAR-POSH Learning Collaborative Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) Cycle/A3 (Lean) Refresher Recorded Session

STAAR-POSH (Surgical Team Approach to Advanced  Recovery and Peri-Operative Surgical Home) Learning Collaborative is to help advance recovery protocols that can be applied to patient care and treatment plans as appropriate.

This Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) Cycle/A3 (Lean) Refresher course will review the process to complete a PDSA Cycle.  The PDSA cycle is shorthand for testing a change by developing a plan to test the change (Plan), carrying out the test (Do), observing and learning from the consequences (Study), and determining what modifications should be made to the test.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Primary care, IM, FM, surgeons, all specialties referring to surgery, anesthesiology. Nurses: pre-surg testing, pre-op, surgical, post-op., phy. therapy, occupational therapy, dietitians & other interested professionals

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should :

  1. Adopting the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycle model for an improvement Plan.
  2. Explain the components of Lean and the A3 Problem Solving approach
  3. Explain the relationship between A3 and PDSA
  4. Apply the A3 model to STAAR and other workplace opportunities
  5. Utilize the A3 from problem/opportunity identification through process improvement sustainment
