The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Learner Course - 11/2/2023

Downers Grove, IL US
November 2, 2023

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is designed for the period following resuscitation of the newborn or neonate until care is transferred to the neonatal transport team or members of the neonatal or pediatric ICU team. The program is also useful for maternal/child healthcare providers who care for well newborns or newborns who may become ill.

This program is designed to provide important information about neonatal stabilization for maternal/infant healthcare providers in all settings – from community hospitals and birth centers to emergency rooms and more complex hospital environments, including neonatal intensive care units.

This knowledge will be gained with a one day eight hour didactic-interactive format led by experts in neonatal nursing, medicine, and respiratory care that are nationally trained as S.T.A.B.L.E. Instructors.  This course includes interactive case studies called 'What’s All the Phys About'. These open-ended problems presented in case studies give Learners an opportunity to utilize critical thinking and problem solving relevant to their daily practice.  Interactive quizzes and polling administered during the course will also foster discussion and critical thinking. A final mixed-module post-test is given at the end of the course.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for Nurses, Physicians, and Respiratory Therapists who work with neonates (sick or well); and other interested maternal child health care providers.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this simulation, learners should be able to:

  1. Anticipate the needs of the newborn through understanding of how they adapt to life upon birth, and prepare for resuscitating, stabilizing, and transporting sick or preterm infants from lower care to higher care facility if needed.
  2. Act appropriately to alleviate the symptoms and promote safety of care as the newborn transitions to the new environment.
  3. Reassess and monitor the newborn in a timely manner based on standards of care.
  4. Develop teamwork among the health providers
