Tranexamic Acid - TXA

There are many different medications which can be utilized at the Paramedic level and tranexamic acid (TXA) is another tool in the ever-growing toolbox of EMS. It is important to understand this medication as well as the indications, contraindications and the appropriate time to utilize this medication. 

Target Audience

This course is intended for those licensed at the Paramedic Level. This course satisfies the requirements for the State of Wisconsin EMT Flexible Refresher Renewal.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Understand the indications for use of TXA
  • Understand the contraindications for use of TXA
  • Understand how TXA works in the body
  • Understand the appropriate dose for TXA
  • Understand the utilization TXA and that it is a slow push medication or a drip and to not be administered as a quick bolus dose
  • Understand the side effects of giving TXA too quickly
