Essential Links in the Chain of Recovery: Trauma Training and Pediatric Preparedness.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity the participants should be able to:

  • Review the modifications to the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course® and manual (10th edition), including recognition and treatment priorities for hemorrhagic shock, thoracic injuries, head and neck trauma, burn injuries, and pelvic fractures
  • Learn a new validated bruising clinical decision tool for children under 4 years that accurately identifies inflicted trauma/child abuse, with implications for occult multisystem trauma.
  • Understand the evolution of the EMSC (emergency medical services for children) program and its impact on pediatric preparedness in community hospitals and trauma centers.

  1. Discuss management of specific cases, reviewing for options and appropriateness of care
