2nd Advocate Neonatal and Pediatric ECMO Conference
This conference is an update on the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) practices at Advocate Children’s Hospital- Oak Lawn Campus. With the expansion of the team, we seek to provide a unified approach to critically ill patients on ECMO as well as updates in ECMO management.
Target Audience
This course is intended for Cardiology, Pediatrics, Residents/Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and Respiratory Therapists.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, learners should be able to:
- Discuss the use of different centrifugal pumps on ECMO.
- Discuss the ECMO circuit can be augmented to increase the safety of ECMO based on components utilized.
- Recognize varying cannulation techniques for VV/VA ECMO.
- Define normal coagulation pathways.
- Discuss coagulation abnormalities in pediatric critically ill patients requiring ECMO through an understanding of laboratory values and clinical conditions.
- Discuss specific case examples to improve application of coagulation concepts.
- Plan ECMO cannulation and management based on the underlying cardiac and vascular anatomy of the patient.
- Discuss our current protocols for rehabilitation while on ECMO.
- Discuss the role of palliative care and ethics in out ECMO program.
- Discuss current approach for ECMO and sepsis.
