Implementing and Increasing Virtual Visits MOC Part IV Project

If you need MOC Part 4 points recorded in 2020, please complete the project and your attestation by November 15, 2020.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, family physicians and pediatricians needed to move quickly to reduce in-person patient visits in support of social distancing recommendations. At the same time, acute and chronic health needs of patients still needed to be addressed. This project addresses the initial adoption, problem solving, and improvement of the delivery of virtual health care by primary care family physicians and pediatricians in the medical home, through use of telephonic and video visits.

By actively participating in the Virtual Visits project and engaging in two Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA)* cycles, you are eligible to claim MOC Part IV credit. Click here for more information about how this project will be recognized by your certifying Board. Active participation includes:

  1. Actively participate in the project by reviewing the virtual health training materials found in the AAH COVID-19 Information Center for Team Members and Physicians. (Click here to access)
  2. Making an effort to increase the number of patients seen virtually while implementing the problem solving skills and lessons learned from the training to ensure high-quality delivery of care.
  3. Review billing data to determine your percentage of virtual visits held, and measure your progress by doing so once after the end of the first PDSA cycle, and once at the end of the second PDSA cycle.
  4. Register on this site and fully complete the attestation form. You will need to provide your NPI and your Board ID numbers.

To access virtual visit training tools click here to go to the AAH website. Find the tools by clicking "COVID-19 Toolkit", then select the "Virtual Health" tab.

The goal of this project is to increase the number of virtual visits by 75% during these peak months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

*PDSA is shorthand for testing a change by developing a plan to test the change (Plan), carrying out the test (Do), observing and learning from the consequences (Study), and determining what modifications should be made to the test (Act).
