Eighth Annual Rene Arcilla Symposium on Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery: The Fontan

Advances in technology and medical care in the long term management of the Fontan patient: long term follow-up of the Fontan patient, establishing a Fontan follow-up program, management of lymphatic diseases associated with single ventricle palliation, indications and outcomes of Fontan conversion operation, assist devices available for Fontan circulation.

All physicians including pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, pediatric critical care physicians, adult cardiologists, adult and pediatric gastroenterologists, pediatric nurses, pediatric intensivists, perfusionists, ECHO technicians, fellows, residents, medical students, pediatric respiratory therapists, developmental therapists and allied health professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Identify the different components of Fontan follow-up program and long-term management of the Fontan patient.
  • Discuss lymphatic diseases and how to manage them after single ventricle palliation
  • Identify the ideal candidate for Fontan conversion operation and discuss outcomes with families
  • Identify the different mechanical support modalities available for the failing Fontan.
