This presentation will review the pathophysiology, risk factors, and diagnosis of anemia in heart failure patients, evaluate clinical trials that have guided treatment recommendations, and discuss emerging therapies that could potentially change practice for this population.

- Summarize the pathophysiology, risk factors, and diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in chronic heart failure
- Develop a safe and effective treatment regimen for heart failure patients who have iron deficiency anemia based on clinical trials and practice recommendations
- Evaluate when heart failure patients should receive prophylactic iron agents
- Identify place in therapy for emerging agents for iron deficiency anemia in heart failure
