Cultural Sensitivity Training

This conference is being held virtually.

This presentation will explore how increased awareness of ethnocultural differences can prevent increased harm on patients and improve the quality of service provided. Increased cultural competence will prevent against application of predetermined norms on all patients.

Target Audience

This course is intended for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other allied health professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe what it means to be culturally competent when working with patients
  2. Be able to identify a range of normal behaviors by a particular ethnic or cultural group
  3. Be able to identify personal biases and how it may play a role during treatment
