Assessment & Treatment Issues for Intimate Partner Abuse Survivors

September 9, 2022

This workshop draws on Jennifer’s thirty-five years of therapy experience, reports from survivors, and her book, Coercive Relationships: Find the Answers You Seek. The workshop begins with a survivor survey of what they find helpful in therapy. Jennifer acknowledges counter-transference issues that are common and describes best practices for assessment and therapy delivery. She talks about survivor stages of change, therapeutic modules, frequent survivor issues, and the concept of abuse-instilled fear that complicates recovery. Jennifer concludes with a survivor story of empowerment. There are handouts for use with clients and at least one small group discussion.
