This course will discuss the importance of having a surgery checklists and the importance of effective communication in a surgery setting.

This course is intended for all physicians.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  2. Realize the history and effectiveness of safety check lists.
  3. Recognize the importance of effective communication.
  4. Explain how the check list facilitates identification of potential safety concerns and improves overall reliability in procedural areas, including the operating room.
  5. Describe human factors and how the field relates to reliability.
  6. Understand how optimal outcomes rely on an effective work environment.
  7. Understand how checklists and communication contribute to high reliability.
