STAAR-POSH Learning Collaborative- Perioperative Diabetic Management Recorded Session

STAAR-POSH (Surgical Team Approach to Advanced  Recovery and Peri-Operative Surgical Home) Learning Collaborative is to help advance recovery protocols that can be applied to patient care and treatment plans as appropriate.

This Perioperative Diabetic Management course will review the protocols and assist with the management of diabetic patients.

Target Audience

This course is intended for Primary care, IM, FM, surgeons, all specialties referring to surgery, anesthesiology. Nurses: pre-surg testing, pre-op, surgical, post-op., phy. therapy, occupational therapy, dietitians & other interested professionals

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should :

  1. Identify the demographics of diabetes in the US
  2. Understanding the supporting evidence for better glycemic control in surgery
  3. Outline key steps and stakeholders for implementation of a sustainable perioperative diabetic protocol
  4. Discuss the impact of uncontrolled blood sugars on SSI
