Objectives:

  • Review milestones for speech and language development.
  • Briefly review the anatomy relevant to speech and vocalization.
  • Review possible causes of speech delay that can be addressed by the pediatric otolaryngologist: hearing loss, otitis media, velopharyngeal insufficiency, ankyloglossia, airway disorders, chronic tracheostomy, craniofacial abnormalities, neurocognitive dysfunction.
