Clinical Issues in Marriage and Family Therapy Series: Intimacy and Couples

Sex and Intimacy are a big part of our lives and human functioning and relational connections. While intimacy is very important, understanding impacts of intimacy on a culture, narrative, and therapeutic research has not been talked much about or researched on. The goal for this workshop is learning about tools to utilize with individuals, couples, and families in a therapeutic setting.

Target Audience

This course is intended for mental health practitioners, including physicians, marriage and family therapists, social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, and other health care professionals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Foster an inclusive environment that prioritizes acceptance, respect, and safety for all participants.
  2. Acquire knowledge and tools to delve into the exploration and psychoeducation of sex, sexuality, and gender identity.
  3. Determine effective strategies to facilitate meaningful connections and cultivate intimacy in relationships.
  4. Gain insight into the significance of intimacy in our communication and its impact on our daily lives.
  5. Apply psychoeducational techniques, skill development, and collaborative efforts to establish healthy sexual practices.
