Drug Screening for Opioid Therapy - APP

This course describes challenges in drug testing patients on opioid for chronic pain. We recommend specific tests, and discuss possible results and actions that may be taken based on those results. Advice for inconsistent drug screen results is also discussed.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for any AAH affiliated prescribers of opioids.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  •  Describe the AAH Opioid Prescribing Procedure
  • Specify drug screening frequency for different risk categories
  • Discuss challenges and limitations of various drug screens
  • List the recommendations for Urine Drug Screens to monitor patients on opioid therapy
  • Identify actions to take for inconsistent drug screens
